A Commentary on the Kenya Land (Amendment Act) 2016
“Legislative Reforms in Africa have been slow in coming but are essential to speed up economic and social change. This space on the website will be devoted to profile legislative reforms of major importance in Africa, starting with the Land Reforms of 2012 and 2016 enacted by the Kenya Parliament to follow through with the mandates in the new Kenya Constitution. The Kenya land reforms were very necessary to replace obsolete colonial legislation inherited on Independence. Many former British and in fact also former French territories still apply pre-independance laws that even Britain and France no longer keep on their law books having been revised long ago to conform to their changed circumstances. We hope that the new legislative reforms we profile here will help other countries in their efforts to bring about reforms that reflect the aspirations of their people.”
